How to Make a Rubie Joker Wig Look Good
The Joker is a nemesis of Batman in the DC Comics Batman comic-book series and in the television shows and movies inspired by the comics. Rubie's Joker wig is a costume wig made by the Rubie's Costume Company to resemble the look of The Joker portrayed by actor Heath Ledger in the 2008 film, "The Dark Knight." Ledger's character had greasy green hair with disheveled curls. The Rubie's Joker wig is the officially-licensed Joker wig. You can style the wig a bit to make your Rubie's Joker wig look really good. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1
Shampoo and condition the Joker wig as you would your regular hair. Set it on a wig stand and let it air dry.
-
2
Set the Joker wig on the wig stand. If you don't have a wig stand, find another way to mount the wig while you style it, such as placing it on a doll's head.
-
-
3
Cup your hand and dispense a quarter-sized amount of curl-enhancing mousse. Rub your hands together to emulsify the product.
-
4
Work the mousse into the wig, starting with the ends and working your way up to the roots.
-
5
Roll sections of hair into foam curling rollers and secure in place. Use different sized rollers so your curls will vary in size. If you don't have foam rollers, any curling rollers that don't use heat will do.
-
6
Pour nearly boiling water into a medium-sized bowl. If the water reaches boiling, allow it to cool for a few minutes because too much heat can damage synthetic hair.
-
7
Dunk the wig into the water long enough to saturate all the hair through to the foam rollers. Shake the excess water out over the sink.
-
8
Set the wig back on the wig stand to dry. You can use a blow dryer on a low-heat setting to speed up the process.
-
9
Take the foam rollers out of the hair.
-
10
Apply a dime-sized amount of hair pomade and emulsify it in your hands.
-
11
Work the pomade into the hair starting at the ends as you gently break some of the curls loose with your fingers. Pomade will help to define the curls and add a bit of the signature Joker greasy-hair effect.
-
12
Comb through some of the curls with a rat-tailed comb to soften the curl. The Joker's hair basically consists of a jumbled mess of varying types of curls, so you want some curls to be looser than others.
-
13
Apply another dime-sized amount of emulsified pomade to the hair to make the hair look greasy and dirty, if desired.
-
14
Pin your hair up or braid it so it's tight against your scalp and tucked away. Put the satin cap over the hair and tuck any loose hairs under the cap.
-
15
Place the wig over the cap and pin it to the cap if it's loose-fitting.
-
16
Use your fingers to twist the curls into their final shape. Spray with hairspray to hold the style.

Tips & Warnings
It's generally recommended that you use only wig-styling products for synthetic wigs, but since they're a big expense for a wig that you'll only wear for one night, you can skip the wig stand and use hair care products for real hair. As of January 2011, an Essentials Wig Care Set from Headcovers Unlimited costs $29, while you can get similar haircare products for real hair for as little as $1 at any drug store or general merchandise retailer.
