Instructions

    • 1

Place the tongue depressor on the dark green felt and use a dark pencil or a pen to trace the shape onto the felt. Use scissors to cut out the shape from the dark green felt and glue it onto the tongue depressor. This will be the body of your lizard.

    • 2

Use the light green felt for cutting out designs to decorate the body of the lizard. Place the light green felt shapes on the body to see how they look. If you're satisfied, glue them down.

    • 3

Glue the buttons or eyes on one end of the tongue depressor.

    • 4

Cut two pipe cleaners in half. These four pieces will become the lizard's legs. Turn the tongue depressor over. Place a drop of glue on each corner. Press down the tips of the pipe cleaners onto the four spots of glue. Hold each one down for several seconds to make sure they stick. The top legs should not line up with the eyes; place them a bit lower on the body. Fold the end of the pipe cleaners at the bottom to create feet (bend each one up toward the head). You can even fold the legs in the middle to make the lizard stand on all fours.

    • 5

Take the last green pipe cleaner (full length) and glue it between the two bottom legs by holding it down in a drop of glue for several seconds. This will become the tail of the lizard. Twist or curl it so it points up.

    • 6

Cut a long thin piece of red felt or use a red pipe cleaner to give the lizard a tongue. Glue it to the bottom of the tongue depressor by holding down one end in the glue until it holds. The tongue should be placed in the center of the tongue depressor so it is in the middle of the two eyes.

Tips & Warnings

  • For a more 3-dimensional lizard, use light green yarn instead of the light green felt to design the body.

  • Assist your child when he is using the hot glue gun.
