To make the walls even more interesting, paint them a combination of colors. Choose one color for the walls and another for the trim, or use stencils to apply decorative scroll work in an accent color.

Add Indian-inspired furnishings. Use dark wood, such as teak, cherry, rosewood or cedar. Place an ornately carved wooden headboard above your bed. Or instead of a headboard, create a more romantic look with a canopy bed, and drape it with saris or decorative embroidered fabric. Make a seating area by placing large satin pillows around a wood coffee table painted with intricate designs.

Incorporate colorful window treatments and bedding. Use colorful saris as curtains. For bedding, choose satin or silk sheets and comforters that feature bold colors.
