Installation of a Bathroom Shower Curtain
A shower curtain is one of the most functional and decorative items in your bathroom. Some decorators base the entire theme of a bathroom on the shower curtain. Shower curtains are made from luxurious materials, budget-friendly plastics and everything in between. Shower curtain liners are often used to prevent expensive or less water-tolerant materials from getting wet. But whether shower curtains cost $100 or $10, they all serve the same purpose: to provide privacy and keep water inside shower stalls or tubs. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Twist the inner portion of a tension shower rod to lengthen the entire unit. Set the length at approximately 1 inch shorter than the space in which it will be hanging. Position the rod in place and continue twisting until it fits firmly between the supporting walls. Typically, the shower curtain rod should be positioned approximately 75 inches above the floor. Use a step stool, if necessary.
-
2
Open the curtain rings and place them on the rod. Make sure any decorative details are facing forward.
-
-
3
Turn the curtain and/or curtain liner so that the wrong side faces in toward the shower. If using a liner, grasp the coordinating holes for both the liner and the curtain together and attach them as one unit. Starting at one end of the rod, push the holes in the top of the liner/curtain onto the ends of the rings. Clasp each ring shut as you make your way along the rod.
-
4
Adjust the height of your shower curtain, if needed, by twisting the rod once or twice to shorten it slightly. Move the rod so that the curtain is even and hanging approximately 3 to 5 inches from the floor, then readjust the tension so the rod is secure.

Tips & Warnings
Many different washable materials can be used for shower curtains, as long as you also use a waterproof liner. Experiment with tablecloths, bedspreads or household curtains if you can't find the style of shower curtain you want or just need a quick remedy for an open shower.
Both liners and shower curtains can be thrown into your washing machine for regular cleaning. Simply hang them back on the shower rod to air-dry.
For a greener home, choose a low-VOC shower liner and curtain instead of standard vinyl/plastic ones. The smell emitted from a basic plastic shower curtain is actually that of harmful chemicals being released into the air, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
