How to Kill Lice With Grease

Comb the nits out after you kill the lice.

The scientific name for a head lice infestation is pediculosis. The main symptom of head lice is an itchy scalp. The itchiness is a result of the head lice feasting on the blood from your scalp. Head lice are highly contagious and infected individuals should be treated immediately after discovery. If you can't afford a prescription shampoo, you can use grease products to smother the lice until they die.

Instructions

    • 1

Smear grease, or a grease product such as mayonnaise all over the hair and scalp. Saturate the hair all the way to the tips and then cover with a plastic shower cap.

    • 2

Wait one hour and remove the shower cap. Apply heat with a hair dryer to make sure all the lice die. Use the highest heat setting for a total of five minutes.

    • 3

Bring 1 quart of water to a boil and add 1 cup of neem leaves. Neem is an all-natural pesticide. Remove the water from the heat and wait for it to reach room temperature.

    • 4

Remove the neem leaves from the water and use the neem-infused water to rinse the grease out of your hair. Your hair will still be slightly greasy.

    • 5

Run a lice comb through your hair one section at a time. This will remove any dead lice as well as the nits.

    • 6

Wash your hair with your normal shampoo to get out any remaining grease.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have trouble removing the grease from your hair, use a liquid dish soap that specializes in cutting through grease.

  • Seek medical attention if you have any trouble getting rid of the lice on your own.
