How to Salt the Rim of a Shot Glass
Salting the rims of your shot glasses before serving drinks is a simple trick you can use to make them look fancy and professional. It also adds an extra layer of flavor to whatever drink is within the glass. It works best with drinks that go well with the flavors of salt and lime, as you will need to use lime juice to get the salt to stick to the shot glass. If you prefer even more flavor complexity, you can mix some sugar in with the salt before you use the mixture to adorn the rim of the shot glass. Does this Spark an idea?

Pour coarse salt into a shallow dish until you have at least 1/4 inch of salt in the dish. Shake the dish back and forth a few times to form an even layer of salt.

Cut a lime into several sections, slicing from top to bottom. Put a piece of lime onto the rim of the shot glass and push the lime down as far as you wish the layer of salt to extend.

Slide the lime piece around the entire rim of the shot glass in a circle. Squeeze the lime very gently while you do this. It should not drip or squirt juice; the goal is simply to release enough juice to moisten the rim of the shot glass. If your lime is particularly juicy, squeezing won't be necessary. Set the lime aside.

Place the shot glass on its side in the dish of coarse salt. Roll it from one end of the dish to the other, making sure that the entire surface of the sides of the glass come into contact with the salt. The salt will cling to the moisture from the lime juice, leaving your shot glass perfectly rimmed.

Moisten another shot glass with lime, and roll it in the salt in the same way. Repeat as many times as necessary to salt all of your shot glasses.

Tips & Warnings
Salt only one glass at a time. If you try to do several at once, the lime juice on the first ones might dry before you get around to rolling them in the salt.
