How to Clean the Dirty Finish on Wood Furniture

Things You'll Need
- Cloths
- Mild detergent
- Boiled linseed oil
- Gum turpentine
- White vinegar
- Bucket or container
- Rubber gloves
- Spoon

Dampen a cloth with warm water, and wring it out. Add 2 or 3 drops of mild detergent for a painted finish.

Wipe the wood furniture thoroughly with the cloth to remove dirt or residue. Use small, circular motions.

Rinse the painted wood furniture with a clean, damp cloth.

Dry the wood furniture thoroughly with a cloth.
Oil Finish

Mix 1 pint of boiled linseed oil, 1 pint of gum turpentine, and 6 ounces of white vinegar in a bucket or container. Wear gloves, and use a spoon to mix the cleaning solution.

Dip a cloth into the solution, and wipe the wood furniture with the cloth. Use small, circular motions while cleaning. Allow it to sit for 10 minutes.

Wipe the furniture with a clean cloth to remove any excess residue. Follow the direction of the wood grain.

Apply a light, thin layer of liquid wax or polish to lacquer-finished furniture with a soft cloth. It protects the finish and brings out shine.
Avoid skin contact with the turpentine cleaning solution, and don't use it around sparks or flames.
