How to Make Coffee Gelato

How to Make Coffee Gelato thumbnail
Use high quality instant coffee or espresso when making coffee gelato.

Gelato, often considered to be the ice cream of Italy, is a sweet, creamy dessert that is much denser than ice cream, which generally has more air content. However, gelato has less butterfat that ice cream. Often flavored with more savory foods than ice cream, gelato makes an excellent finish to a classic Italian meal or for any fresh-tasting cuisine where a light-tasting dessert is desired. Gelato, much like ice cream, can be made in advance and stored in the freezer for up to one year. Does this Spark an idea?

Tips & Warnings

  • If you use whole eggs to make coffee gelato, make sure you save the whites for breakfast or for another recipe. Egg whites can keep for up to 5 days in the refrigerator in a container with a tight-fitting lid, but they should be used as soon as possible.

  • All ice cream makers are different. Consult the owner's manual for detailed gelato instructions if necessary.

  • You can use flavored instant coffee or espresso for a unique, light flavor. Just use premium coffee or coffee you like drinking for the best possible taste.

  • For a unique touch, try serving coffee gelato with homemade raspberry syrup or fresh raspberries and a touch of fresh mint.
