NiCad batteries, or NiCd, are made of nickel-cadmium. NiCad batteries are rechargeable and often found in power tools, cell phones and digital cameras. Rechargeable batteries will not hold their charge forever, so at some point you will have to dispose of them. Recycling your NiCad battery is the safest and most beneficial way to dispose of the battery. Visit the "Call2Recycle" website to find a location that accepts battery drop-offs. Enter your ZIP code for Atlanta, Georgia, into the Call2Recycle website and locate a facility in your area. The Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC), a nonprofit organization, established the Call2Recycle program in 1994. Call2Recycle has collected over 60 million pounds of rechargeable batteries since 1994, which has eliminated a lot of waste in landfills.

Drop your NiCad batteries off at a local office supply store, home store or electronics store. Many stores, such as Best Buy, Radio Shack, Office Max, Office Depot, Wal-Mart, Staples, Home Depot, Target, Sears and cell phone retail stores, have drop-off bins in the store that accept battery donations. The batteries are then recycled, or properly disposed of, by proper sorting and then shipping them to the appropriate recycling center.

Contact your local sanitation department and inquire as to where you may drop the batteries off. Most sanitation departments offering a recycling program that may either pick up your recyclables or offer drop-off locations around Atlanta. If they cannot accept the battery, then they will direct you to a recycling center that is able to accept it.
