How to Set an Alarm Without a Trackball

Many BlackBerry devices have a trackball that you use to navigate through the phone's menus. Once you get used to using the trackball, you can quickly forget that there are other ways to use the device. If the trackball goes bad, you can use the BlackBerry's built-in shortcuts. You will also have to set up the device to accept shortcut commands on the main screen; these devices default to the phone application when you press a key while in the application menu.

Instructions

1. Press the green button to bring up the dial screen.

2. Press the BlackBerry key, located to the left of the trackball. This brings up the menu. Press the "O" button to highlight "Options" and press the "Enter" key on the keyboard.

3. Press "Enter" again to access "General Settings." Press "Enter" to move the highlighted option down the screen until "Dial From Home Screen" is highlighted.

4. Press the "N" key to change the option to "No." Press the "Back" key, located to the right of the trackball, then press "Enter" to save your changes. Press the "Back" key two more times to get back to the application list.

5. Press the "R" button to access your alarm. Don't hold the button down.

6. Use the "Enter" key to scroll down the options. Use the "Space" key to change the highlighted option. Press the "Back" button when you are done, and press "Enter" to save your changes.
