How to Clean a Lexus Air Mass Flow Meter

The mass airflow, or MAF, sensor on your Lexus is a device used to measure the density and mass of air that enter your fuel injectors and your engine. On your Lexus the mass airflow sensor is mounted in the engine compartment near the air filter. With time and use your MAF sensor can become dirty and clogged. This results in your Lexus' computer being unable to calculate critical factors like cylinder firing.

Things You'll Need

• Wrench set
• Spray Air Flow Sensor cleaner

Instructions

1. Open your hood and find the Mass Air Flow sensor. It will be housed inside a box near your air filter. Open the box by flipping up the tabs on its side.

2. Grasp the mass airflow sensor and gently lift it up out of its case being careful not to disconnect the wires.

3. Spray the sensor with the air flow sensor cleaner as you turn it in your hands, making sure to blow clean the entire meter.

4. Hold the sensor in your hand for several seconds as it dries and then set in back down inside its case and then close it.
