Steam vegetables and more.

The George Foreman Steamer is marketed as a companion to the George Foreman Grill. The idea is that these two appliances are all you need to cook healthy meals. If your idea of a healthy meal consists of rice, steamed veggies and grilled meat, the George Foreman Steamer and grill can be convenient, especially since you can use the steamer as a rice cooker. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Cook up some rice. The George Foreman Steamer functions as a rice cooker and there are levels marked for rice and water as well as settings for both brown and white rice.

    • 2

Sear meat in the steamer before cooking it on the stove or in the oven. Searing the meat keeps the juices in and keeps the meat from drying out.

    • 3

Steam vegetables in the tiers provided. You should put denser vegetables on the lower tiers and delicate vegetables on the higher ones.

Tips & Warnings

  • Watch the vegetables. The rice cooker can be left unattended because it will cut off automatically, but veggies do not have an automatic setting.

  • You can go directly from cooking rice to another use with no cleanup. After searing meat the area can be cleaned with a damp cloth and it is ready for steaming veggies or another function.

  • The vegetable steaming area may be too small for the needs of large families. If your meal consists largely of vegetables, you likely will need to prepare the vegetables in batches.
