How to Clean a Cashmere Sport Coat

Cashmere is a luxurious fabric made from the soft undercoat of Cashmere goats. This soft, light and durable fabric is often used to make clothing, such as sweaters, socks, jackets and coats. If your cashmere sport coat isn't clean and you don't want to have it dry cleaned, you can safely hand wash it with the right products and methods. Instructions

      Fill a large sink or tub with lukewarm water and add 2 tsp. of mild laundry detergent or baby shampoo.

      Place the cashmere sport coat into the water and gently press it through the suds. Don't wring or twist the coat while cleaning.

      Drain or sink the tub, and fill it with cool or lukewarm water. Press the cashmere coat through the water to rinse away any soap residue.

      Remove the coat from the sink or tub, and lay it flat onto a large towel. Roll up the towel with the coat inside to remove any excess moisture.

      Unroll the towel, and lay the coat flat onto a clean table. Smooth it out into its proper shape, and allow it to air dry completely.

Tips & Warnings

  • To soften a clean cashmere coat, put it into a mesh bag, and place it in the dryer on a no-heat setting for 20 minutes.

  • Don't use any bleach or harsh detergents to clean cashmere.

  • Don't wash cashmere in the washing machine, or dry it in the dryer with heat.
