How to Adjust the Screws on a Wacom Tablet PC Stylus

How to Adjust the Screws on a Wacom Tablet PC Stylus thumbnail
A Wacom tablet comes with a pen that may eventually need adjustment.

Wacom creates a number of tablets and pens. As of January 2011, these tablets are available for prices ranging from $70 to $2000. Many Wacom models allow you to purchase a new pen to use with your tablet instead of completely replacing the tablet. While these new pens are a good option if your pen no longer functions, you may be able to salvage a barely functioning pen by adjusting the screws. Screw adjustment uses a "guess and check" method and may require several hours of time.

Things You'll Need

  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Micro-screwdriver

Instructions

    • 1

Open the pen to access the screws. Remove the plastic tab of the pen. This tab sits next to the buttons. Nudge a flat-head screwdriver under the plastic tab to pry the tab from the pen. Set the tab aside.

    • 2

Insert a micro-screwdriver into the screw of the Wacom pen. Turn the screw clockwise to tighten it. Turn the screw counterclockwise to loosen it.

    • 3

Replace the pen cover. Turn on your computer and open a graphics program. Plug the Wacom tablet into the computer and test the pen. If the pen is still behaving abnormally, adjust the screws again.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try updating your tablet's drivers if your pen continues to malfunction.

  • You may also want to replace the nub, which is the tip of the pen that controls the pressure. Grasp the nub using needle nose pliers and pull out the nub. Then push a new nub into the hole.
