How to Fix a Short Circuit in a Stereo Receiver

How to Fix a Short Circuit in a Stereo Receiver thumbnail
All stereo systems rely on small fuses to protect the outside speaker equipment.

Small fuses are inserted into the back of stereo systems. These fuses control the amount of power sent to all of the connected speakers. This prevents you from blowing out the speakers if there is too much power distributed from the receiver. If the fuses do short out, you need to correct the short circuit by installing a new fuse into the stereo receiver.

Instructions

    • 1

Check your user manual for the type of replacement fuse you need. Typically, you can purchase replacement fuses from the same location you purchased the stereo receiver.

    • 2

Open the access panel to the fuses. This is generally located on the back end of the stereo, although you may want to check your user manual for the exact location.

    • 3

Remove the blown-out fuse from the stereo receiver. You can tell it's damaged because it is black or completely broken.

    • 4

Insert the new fuse and close off the fuse compartment on the stereo receiver. Power on the equipment -- the connected speaker system now functions correctly.
