Create a simple bag to keep your makeup brushes handy.

A makeup brush holder will keep your brushes from being damaged or losing bristles when they are in your purse or luggage. Avoid paying for an expensive makeup brush holder by making your own. Sewing your own not only makes for a great accessory for you but also a great gift for friends and family. Try out this project and you will have money to spare for more makeup brushes.

Instructions

    • 1

Figure out how many brushes you will need to put in your holder. Also, measure the tallest brush in your set.

    • 2

Measure fabric. You will want it to be a little wider than all of your brushes are when they are laid out how you want them. The height should be at least twice that of your tallest brush.

    • 3

Cut the lining fabric to the exact same measurements of the outside fabric. Sew the bottoms of the fabric together. Leave the other sides open to prevent the seams of your pocket from being visible.

    • 4

Fold the bias tape in half. Iron the bias tape until you have a nice crease.

    • 5

Fold the bottom of your fabric so that your brushes are still visible. Pin the pocket only to the lining. Make sure you move the outer fabric out of the way when you sew. Sew the sides closed to make the pocket.

    • 6

Sew the bias tape at the top of the pocket with a straight stitch but avoid sewing the lining or your pocket will not open.

    • 7

Place the brushes in the pocket in the order you want them and space out how you want them. Pin the fabric down around the brushes.

    • 8

Sew the pocket seams with a straight stitch.

    • 9

Place the brushes in their pockets to make sure everything fits the way you want.

    • 10

Place one end of the ribbon right above the pocket on one side. It should hang off of the side of the makeup bag. Sew the ribbon to the makeup bag.

    • 11

Sew the remaining three sides closed with a straight stitch.

    • 12

Roll your makeup back up and tie it closed with the ribbon.
