How to Provide Wireless Internet in Condominiums

If you want to provide wireless Internet in your condominium, you can easily offer this as a perk to any of your residents or to improve the attractiveness of the condo during a sale. Wireless Internet uses a standard modem and a specific type of router that broadcasts the wireless signal to the area around it.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the range requirements for your wireless router and map out central locations to offer your wireless Internet. You may want to put a router and modem on each floor to keep the networks separate, or you may have a small enough complex that one router will do the trick.

    • 2

Plug in your modem to your router in the modem-specific port on the back of the router.

    • 3

Use a laptop or set up a computer near the router area so you can set the network up. Insert the router installation disk into your computer and follow the on-screen instructions in order to set up a network. You will need to give the wireless network name and password to your residents, so make it something easy to remember.

Check the signal strength in each of the condo units if possible. For condos that are further away from the router, you may need to purchase and install wireless repeaters to extend the signal strength so that each condo can easily connect to the network.
