1
Play with your child. The easiest change to make for your preschooler is to add more activity into their day. Rather than watching a show together, get outside and play. Go to the park, go for a walk or even a bike ride. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends that children get 60 minutes of cardio exercise everyday to keep a healthy weight. Moving more will help your child burn more energy and calories throughout the day.

2
Lose sugary drinks. Giving your child sugary drinks during the day can add up to a lot of calories. Sugary drinks contain little nutrition, instead they contain high amounts of sugar, carbohydrates and calories. Ditch the fruit drinks and sodas. Instead make sure your child is staying hydrated with water. Allow your child to drink 100 percent fruit juice in small amounts a day. The American Dietetic Association recommends kids drink only six ounces of fruit juice a day.

Control the portions. Controlling the amount of food your child eats will play a significant role in their weight. Be in control of how much your child is snacking throughout the day. Offer two or three healthy snacks during their day. These snacks could include fruit, whole grain crackers, cheeses or even one small cookie. Refrain from allowing your child to have uncontrolled eating.
