How to Make Crochet Headbands for Little Girls

How to Make Crochet Headbands for Little Girls thumbnail
Crochet stitches are taller than knit stitches, work up faster and require more yarn.

Crochet headbands are a quick project ideal for dressing up your favorite little girl. They can be made from any worsted weight yarn, with the ribbing providing stretch so the headband will continue to fit as the child grows. Crochet headbands look adorable when dressed up with a felted flower, butterfly or initial, or they can be worn just as they are. If you need a fast gift, even beginner crocheters can whip up a headband in an hour or two.

Instructions

    • 1

Make a slip knot, leaving an 8 inch tail for sewing the seam at the end. Insert your crochet hook through the loop of the knot.

    • 2

Chain 16 stitches by looping the yarn over your hook from right to left. Grab the yarn with your hook and pull it through the previous loop.

    • 3

Insert your hook into the next to last link in the chain. Work the hook under both sides of the upper V.

    • 4

Make one single crochet in each remaining stitch in the chain.

    • 5

Chain one stitch at the end of the row and turn your work.

    • 6

Work one single crochet in the back loop of each previous single crochet. You are creating ribbing to make the headband stretchy.

    • 7

Repeat step 6 until the headband fits around the child's head. 9 inches will stretch to fit a toddler's head, while 15 inches will stretch to fit a teenager's head.

    • 8

Thread a darning needle with the 8 inch tail at the beginning of the headband. Sew the end stitches together with a whip stitch.
