How to Winterize a Sea Doo Jet Ski

Sea Doo jet skis are a popular model of watercraft used primarily from late spring through fall. If you live in a cold weather climate, it's necessary for you to winterize your jet ski in order for it to properly operate when the weather gets warmer. Winterizing your Sea Doo jet ski is a fairly straightforward job that requires just a few tools and other basic materials.

Things You'll Need

  • Wrench
  • Gas
  • Gas stabilizer
  • Soap
  • Water
  • Boat wax
  • Towels
  • Rags
  • Jet ski cover
  • Tarps or heavy-duty plastic bags

Instructions

    • 1

Drain the water from the engine. Do this while your Sea Doo is on your trailer so that it is tilted, with the stern lower than the bow. Turn on the engine for no more than 30 second and move the handle back and forth to drain the water. But don't do this for more than 30 seconds, as the engine can overheat.

    • 2

Wash and wax the Sea Doo to prevent weather erosion. Be sure to dry the interior and exterior of the jet ski completely.

    • 3

Fill the gas tank to its capacity. This prevents condensation during the storage period. Add gas stabilizer to prevent the gasoline from degrading over the winter months. Start the engine and run it for 30 seconds. Repeat three or four times. Do not store the jet ski near a heat source.

    • 4

Disconnect the battery from its terminals and store it in a warm place. Do not place it inside your home, as it could release harmful fumes.

    • 5

Place a rag inside the exhaust pipe. This will prevent bugs and rodents from nesting inside the exhaust pipe, especially if you are storing it in a garage or shed.

    • 6

Cover your Sea Doo with an appropriate cover that fits your specific model. Park the trailer holding the jet ski on level ground. Cover the trailer tires with tarps or heavy-duty plastic bags to avoid corrosion or rotting, which can lead to flat trailer tires.
