Ignition switches can now be programmed to electronic ignition keys to add extra security and safety to your vehicle. These keys are synced with your engine to start your car, and once you program them, only a programmed key will start your car. Both safe and convenient, you can program the key to the switch in just a few minutes from your car's driver's seat.
Step 1
Enter your car with your cut ignition key and insert the key into the ignition switch.
Step 2
Turn the key to the "On" position and leave it in that position for 10 minutes and 30 seconds.
Step 3
Turn the car back to the "Off" position within 45 seconds of the 10:30 elapsing.
Step 4
Repeat the previous two steps two more times, for a total of three cycles. End the third cycle in the "Off" position.
Step 5
Turn the key back to the "On" position to end the programming sequence.
Tip
These steps are used for U.S. manufactured vehicles and only work on vehicles with a VIN number starting with 1 or 4.
