How to Make a Crossword or Scramble Word Puzzle Online

Crossword puzzles are instructive and entertaining.

Crossword puzzles can be useful teaching tools in the classroom. You can instill vocabulary words or key terms from a lesson by using a crossword or scrambled word puzzle; these puzzles stimulate the brain and provide entertainment as well. You can create crossword or scrambled word puzzles online for free, providing your own clues, and print them out to use in class.

Instructions

1. Visit a website that will generate a crossword or scrambled word puzzle for free; these sites include Discovery Education's Puzzlemaker, Crossword Puzzle Games and EdHelper.

2. Enter the words in the left column of the puzzle maker and the clues in the right column of the puzzle maker. Make your clues succinct so that they will not take up too much space. The words can also be short phrases, such as a first and last name. For example, Mark Twain could be the word and the clue could be "author of Huckleberry Finn."

3. Click the "Create Puzzle" or "Generate Puzzle" button; the puzzle maker will automatically put the puzzle together with intersecting words or scrambled words, depending on the kind of puzzle you are creating.

4. Print out as many copies of the crossword or scrambled word puzzle as you need for your class, and a few extras just in case you need them.
