Kids can create their own menu.

There are various activities a child can participate in that will allow him to express his creativity. One method involves developing a restaurant menu. A child can use some of his favorite dishes on the menu as well as develop new ones. Once the menu is finished, he can invite a few friends over to become his first pretend customers.

Instructions

    • 1

Give your child a few food magazines or grocery store flyers. Allow him to cut out several types of breakfast, lunch and dinner foods. You may also want him to cut out some appetizers or desserts. If he is creating his own dish, have him draw what the dish would look like after it was cooked.

    • 2

Instruct your child to think of a name for the play restaurant, and write it on the front of a manila file folder with a set of markers.

    • 3

Open the file folder and create a heading for breakfast, lunch and dinner. If your child chose to add appetizers and a dessert, he will need a heading for that as well.

    • 4

Paste the food pictures under the appropriate heading and assign each dish a name. For example, your child may have a dish called "Sarah's Southern-Style Soup" or "Turkey Delight."

    • 5

List a description of the dish underneath the title. This description can also include the ingredients in the dish. Write the price of the dish next to the picture or underneath the description.

Tips & Warnings

  • Your child may also want to add a category for beverages.

  • Laminate the restaurant menu if you have the materials.
