How to Make Miniature Tassels
Miniature tassels can be used to add a decorative fringe to a lampshade or handmade pillow or they can add a bit of color to wedding favors or other small gifts. While you can purchase miniature tassels ready to use, making them yourself is not complicated and does not require any special tools or skills. Crafting your own tassels allows you to choose the perfect colors and materials to match your project.
Instructions
-
-
1
Cut a piece of cardboard into a 2-inch square with scissors or a craft knife.
-
2
Wrap embroidery floss or yarn around the cardboard square in the same direction approximately 10 to 12 times. This creates a thick loop of the floss or yarn on the cardboard.
-
-
3
Slide the loop off one side of the cardboard while trying to maintain its shape.
-
4
Tie a 4-inch piece of floss or yarn into a knot around the loop approximately 1/2-inch from one end. This forms the head and tail of your miniature tassel.
-
5
Bring the ends of the 4-inch long piece of floss up to the top of the tassel's head. Tie another knot at the top of the tassel. Now you can use the ends of the piece of floss to hang the tassel.
-
6
Cut through the bottom of the tassel's tail with scissors. If the ends of the miniature tassel are uneven, you can trim them with the scissors.
