My Maytag Dryer Mde9700ayw Won't Start
The Maytag MDE9700AYW is a front-loading clothes dryer. The dryer offers several dry cycles, including "Quick Dry," for quickly drying items, "Delicates" for items marked "delicate" and "Air Fluff," which uses room temperature air rather than heat to dry clothes. The dryer also has a sensor built into the lint filter that detects the dampness of the clothes. Using the sensor, the dryer will run until it detects that the clothes in the dryer drum are no longer wet. When the MDE9700AYW does not turn on, there are a few troubleshooting steps to take prior to calling a service technician. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Press the Cycle Selector dial to start the dry cycle, or to resume the dry cycle if the door was opened mid-cycle.
-
2
Open the door and ensure that no items are blocking the door from securely closing, then securely close the dryer door. The dryer is designed not to function unless the door is securely closed.
-
-
3
Look for signs of power on the dryer such as lights and a readout on the display. If there is no power, ensure that the power cord is securely plugged into the wall outlet.
-
4
Ensure that the dryer breaker in your breaker panel was not tripped. Turn the breaker off, then on again to reset a tripped breaker.
-

Look for an error code on the digital display. The error code "T5" indicates a malfunction with the heater temperature control, while "dC" indicates a door open sensor problem. A damaged heater temperature control is a fire hazard and as a safety precaution, the dryer will not turn on. Additionally, when the door sensor is damaged, the dryer can not determine if the door is open or closed and will not start. Maytag recommends contacting a Maytag service adviser if these or any other codes are displayed on the digital display.
