Prepare your work station for engraving. Place a few sheets of newspaper on a flat surface, such as table or countertop.

3
Attach a diamond-tipped bit onto the tip of the flex shaft. There are three types of diamond-tipped bits; the 105, 106 and 107. The thinnest tip is the 105; you can use that tip for writing on the picture frame.

Engrave the silver picture frame. Lightly place the bit onto the surface of the picture frame and begin engraving. Never dig into the metal, for it can damage the frame. It may be best to have a template of the design of your choice, so you can use it as an outline as you engrave the frame.

5
Engrave the design in one direction. It will be more uniform if the grain of the engraved design is in one direction. Your silver picture frame is now engraved with your favorite design or saying.
