How to Fix the Belt Slipping on My Treadmill
Treadmills are expensive exercise machines, and each part of the machine must work in order to get a good workout. The walking belt, although one of the most important parts of the treadmill, often gets overlooked until it begins slipping. Sometimes, treadmill lubrication can be applied to help, but only if the manual instructs you to do so. If the lubrication does not work, the other alternative is to adjust it yourself.

Checking the Treadmill
-
1
Turn off and unplug the treadmill. It is more difficult and dangerous to work on the treadmill if it is plugged in because you can get hurt if it accidentally powers on while you are adjusting something electrical.
-
2
Not unplugging the treadmill before fixing it can be dangerous. Check underneath the belt for any excessive wear. If there is excessive wear, the belt may need to be replaced. If the belt does not show any signs of extreme wear, continue to step three.

3
Open the motor cover. Depending on the treadmill, the motor cover can be screwed or latched down. If the motor is screwed down, the screwdriver will be needed to loosen the motor.
-
4
Check for any foreign objects that may have gotten wedged in the motor. Foreign objects may interfere with how the belt operates when used. If there are no foreign objects, the belt needs to be tightened.
-
5
Close the motor cover. Make sure the motor cover is screwed or latched down securely to prevent any damage to the motor.
-
6
Tighten the belt. Towards the end of the walking belt, there are two bolts on either side of the belt. Twist clockwise to tighten the belt.
-
7
Test the treadmill. Plug in the treadmill and power it on. Begin walking on it. If the problem persists, you may need to purchase another walking belt. Contact your treadmill company before purchasing any new parts for the treadmill.
