Use wisteria to create home and hair decorations.

Wisteria wreaths can be made as a decoration for the home or as a creative hair accessory. You can make the crafts from real or silk flowers and add coordinating colors to complement a color scheme.

Instructions

  1. Making Wisteria Wreaths for Home Decor

    • 1

Bend a coat hanger into a circle, leaving the hook up the hanger to hang the completed wreath later. Alternatively, you can use a pre-formed wire form, available at craft stores.

    • 2

Interweave several long pieces of straw around the hanger or pre-formed wire to cover the wire. Once the wire is hidden, begin wrapping the straw pieces around the hanger without interweaving them. Instead, secure the straw to the wire with a thin floral wire and continue wrapping until the straw wreath reaches a diameter of about 3 inches.

    • 3

Cut five, 6- to 7-inch sections of the real or silk wisteria. Try to cut sections that have a good combination of greenery and flowers.

    • 4

Place one of the sections on the wreath and wrap a piece of floral wire around the wisteria and the wire to secure it in place. Wrap the length of the wisteria around the straw, leaving small pieces of the straw exposed. Secure the end of the wisteria with another piece of floral wire.

    • 5

Place the next piece of wisteria on the wreath, slightly overlapping the end of the first piece to hide the floral wire. Wrap the piece of wisteria around the straw, secure it with floral wire and continue in this manner until you have worked your way all around the wreath.

    • 6

Form a bow from purple and white 3-inch wide ribbon and attach it to the wreath on top of any floral wire still showing. Repeat this step to hide any evident floral wire.

    Making Wisteria Hair Wreaths

    • 7

Measure the circumference of the wreath wearer's head. Cut a piece of floral wire to that measurement and bend it into a circle.

    • 8

Wrap the ends around each other to secure the circle and to reduce the size of the wire by about 1/2 inch so that the wreath will sit just above the wearer's ears.

    • 9

Wrap a floral tape around the wreath to hide the floral wire.

    • 10

Lay a 1-inch wide white ribbon over top of half of a 1-inch wide lavender ribbon and wrap the ribbons around the tape-covered wire. Leave about 1 foot of ribbon on both ends. Tie these ends in a bow. This will be the back of the wreath.

    • 11

Wrap a 48-inch silk wisteria garland around the wire circle once and then a second time. Secure the end of the garland with a piece of floral wire and cut off any excess garland.
