How to Uninstall a Dialer

A dialer is a spyware program that uses your computer's modem to connect to a remote computer. Typically, dialers are harmful in that they allow harmful programs to automatically download to your computer or place unauthorized telephone charges against you. Such harmful dialers may increase your telephone bill by hundreds of dollars. You can uninstall some dialers from the "Uninstall Programs" window. Many require more extensive measures, including installing an anti-spyware or anti-adware program that will permanently delete the dialer and files related to the dialer program.

Instructions

    • 1

Right-click the Windows taskbar and select "Start Task Manager." Click the "Processes" tab.

    • 2

Click to select the name of the dialer process, and click "End Process" to stop the dialer from performing any harmful operations.

    • 3

Click "Start" and select "Control Panel." Click "Uninstall a Program" under "Programs."

    • 4

Scroll through the list of installed programs to locate the dialer program name. If the dialer appears in the list, click the program name to select it, and click "Uninstall" or "Remove." Click "Finish" to complete the dialer uninstall process.

    • 5

Download and install an anti-spyware or anti-adware program, such as Ad-Aware, Spybot Search & Destroy or SpyHunter (see Resources).

    • 6

Restart your computer and launch your anti-spyware or anti-adware program. Click the "Update" option to update the program. Click "Scan" and run a full scan of your hard drive. Allow the program to remove any spyware or adware programs that the scan detects, including the dialer program and related files.

    • 7

Restart your computer to complete the uninstall process and removal of the dialer program.
