Measure the circumference of your head by placing the sewing measuring tape about a half-inch above your eyebrow to simulate where your hat will sit on your head.

Ensure the tape lays flat to avoid an inaccurate measurement. Run the tape around your head and measure the circumference.

Reference a reliable sizing chart for fitted ball caps. In most cases, the translation between head circumference and hat size is as follows:
Small measurements range between 20 1/2 and 21 5/8 inches and require sizes 6 1/2 to 6 7/8 for a fitted hat. Medium measurements range between 22 and 22 3/8 inches and require sizes 7 to 7 1/8 for a fitted hat. Large measurements range between 22 3/4 and 23 1/8 inches and require sizes 7 1/4 to 7 3/8 for a fitted hat. Extra-large measurements range between 23 1/2 and 25 inches and require sizes 7 1/2 to 8 for a fitted hat.
