How to Decorate Wedding Cookies in a Bouquet

How to Decorate Wedding Cookies in a Bouquet thumbnail
Some things are better on a stick. Make wedding cookie pops into an attractive and delicious bouquet.

Cookie bouquets make festive decorations, convey the same message as a floral bouquet and are delicious too. They are versatile because you aren't limited by what's in season or what wilts, like with a bouquet of flowers. You can decorate the cookies yourself in any theme, so if you are hosting a bridal shower or want to make centerpieces for a wedding reception, you can customize the bouquets to match your wedding colors and impress your guests with your decorating skill.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare a batch of sugar cookie dough and roll it out as if you were going to bake a regular batch of cookies. Flatten the dough to no less than ¼ of an inch thick. Use cookie cutters with a wedding theme such as doves, bells and hearts as well as some flowers.

    • 2

Insert a craft stick into each cookie at what would be the bottom of the shape. Pinch a little dough over the end of the stick to bury it and then smooth the dough. Bake according to the recipe's instructions and allow cookies to completely cool.

    • 3

Mix icing coloring or food coloring into your royal icing. Coordinate with the wedding colors, or just use pastels and white for a general wedding cookie bouquet. Drop an icing tip into an icing bag and fill the bag halfway with royal icing. Twist the top of the bag. Make one bag for every color of icing you will use.

    • 4

Hold the icing tip just above a cookie and squeeze a thin string of icing out as you move the tip around the outline of the cookie to create a border. Squeeze harder for a thicker line and apply less pressure for thinner lines. Use a spoon to drop a dab of icing into the center of a cookie if you want to cover the whole thing in one color. Allow the icing to harden before adding decorations in a second color of icing.

    • 5

Place the foam block in the bottom of the vase or container. Poke the ends of the cookies' sticks into the foam to hold them up in a bouquet style. Arrange the cookies so the decorated sides are all facing one direction and they are inserted into the foam at different heights.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a plastic baggie with the corner cut out if you don't have an icing bag or tip. Cutting only a very small hole will make it easier to draw details.

  • Each cookie can be individually wrapped in a cellophane treat bag and tied with a ribbon if you want to give the cookies out as shower favors or will be keeping them on display for a long period of time.
