How to Erase a CDRW Disk

How to Erase a CDRW Disk thumbnail
Erasing a CD-RW allows you to use the disc like a blank CD.

Unlike regular CD-Rs that you can only record to once, CD-RWs are rewritable discs that you can write data to and erase several times. Windows comes with a built-in disc burning and erasing utility that lets you quickly erase your disc from within Windows Explorer.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the CD-RW into the computer's CD drive. Click "Start" and "Computer" to open Windows Explorer.

    • 2

Click the icon for the CD drive in Windows Explorer and select "Erase this disc" to erase the disc.

    • 3

Click "Finish" when the wizard notifies you that it successfully erased the disc.
