A suspended hanging bar provides space for clothes in a closet.

Clothes hanger bars provide space for hanging garments in an enclosed or built-in closet. You may want to attach it to the ceiling if a wall-affixed bar is not an option. The attachments will ideally be fixed into ceiling joists at each end. You need drywall plaster board fixings if attaching the screws to the joists is not possible. Special drywall screws work best with the fixings. Most hardware stores supply drywall screws and fixings. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length of the clothes hanger bar and decide where you want to fix the attachments to the ceiling.

    • 2

Make a small mark on the ceiling with the bradawl to indicate where you are going to add the drywall fixings.

    • 3

Drill a small hole into the ceiling wide enough to insert the drywall fixings.

    • 4

Insert the drywall fixings into the holes by pushing them in. Ensure the end holes of the fixings are still visible. Drywall fixings will hold the screws and the hanging bar brackets in place.

    • 5

Screw the hanging bar fitment brackets to the ceiling. Place the screws through the fitment bracket screw holes and into the drywall fixings. Tighten the screws with a screwdriver.

    • 6

Slide the clothes hanger bar into place through the fitment brackets.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid drilling through water pipes or electricity wires that may run above the ceiling.

  • Do not make the holes in the ceiling too big. The drywall fixings will fall out of the ceiling and the hanger bar will not stay in place.
