How to Cook Ham Stew in a Slow Cooker
A slow cooker is an electrical countertop cooking device that maintains a relatively low temperature for preparing stews and soups. While ham is already a tender meat, cooking ham stew over several hours will result in a flavorful and savory dish. Cooking ham stew in a slow cooker requires only a few minutes of preparation before letting the meal heat for just under four hours. Add this to my Recipe Box.
Things You'll Need
- 4 peeled red potatoes
- 4 peeled carrots
- 2 white onions
- Sharp knife
- 3 cups cubed ham
- 2 cups water
- 2 whole bay leaves
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. pepper
- 1/2 tsp. dried savory
- Spoon
- 6 tbsp. flour
- 2 cups milk
- Small bowl

Chop the peeled red potatoes, peeled carrots and white onions into 1/2-inch-thick cubes with a sharp knife. Place into the slow cooker.

Add the cubed ham, water, bay leaves, salt, pepper and savory into the slow cooker. Stir with a spoon until all spices combine and cook for three hours on high heat.

Stir the flour and milk together in a small bowl with a spoon until all lumps are dissolved.

Pour the milk mixture into the slow cooker and stir until thoroughly combined.

Allow the stew to cook on high for an additional 30 minutes.

Remove the bay leaves from the stew and discard.

Pour the soup into bowls and allow to cool for five minutes before serving.

Tips & Warnings
Allow the stew to come to room temperature before refrigerating to prevent bacterial growth.
