Sometimes a bathtub, sink or shower faucet needs more than tightening. If the gasket seats have become worn, they are not repairable, and the entire faucet must be replaced.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Bathroom Cleaner
  • Faucet Repair Kits
  • Faucets
  • Rags
  • Basin Wrench
Step1
Locate the water supply to the faucet.
Step2
Turn it off.
Step3
Open both handles on the faucet.
Step4
Disconnect the water supply lines. Use a basin wrench to get to hard to reach nuts.
Step5
Unscrew the winged plastic hold-down nuts, and remove the existing faucet.
Step6
Clean the surface where the new faucet will be installed.
Step7
Set the new faucet's mounting plate in place.
Step8
Insert the new faucet onto the mounting plate.
Step9
Tighten the winged plastic locknuts onto the shank ends of the faucet. Use your hand to tighten.
Step10
Replace the water supply lines, and thread the supply nuts onto the faucet shanks.
Step11
Turn on the water, and test for leaks.

Tips & Warnings

  • Generally, the water supply is located beneath the sink or lavatory.
  • Never use a wrench or other tools to tighten nuts and bolts with plastic threads; always tighten them by hand.
