How to Display Katana Blades on a Stand

How to Display Katana Blades on a Stand thumbnail
The katana should be placed on a stand with care.

Regarded as the most important of the samurai swords, the katana, along with the smaller wakizashi and tanto, served as a samurai's primary weapon in battle. If you have a katana of your own that you don't plan on fighting with, using a stand to display the katana prominently adds to the appeal of any room; it also makes a great conversation piece.

Instructions

    • 1

Sheath the sword carefully in its cover by gripping both blade and cover and placing them together. (If you desire to place the sheath on another part of the rack, skip this step.)

    • 2

Align the sheathed katana with the center of the rack. Keep the grip on the left side of the stand, in accordance with the samurai tradition of grabbing the blade with the left hand and unsheathing it with the right.

    • 3

Place the katana on the stand such that the blade "faces up," or the curvature of the blade goes upward, not downward.

    • 4

Place the sheath cover on the stand directly below the blade (if placing the sheath separately).
