Instructions on Leather Craft Hand Loop Stitches

Instructions on Leather Craft Hand Loop Stitches thumbnail
Vary the distance between loop stitches for a rugged, casual look.

Loop stitching is a decorative form of hand sewing that adds detail to any fabric, even leather. When sewing leathe, use a strong needle that will be able to pierce through the leather. Loop stitches work best when you use a heavier twisted thread. You can add loop stitches as an outline thread or as a decorative filling.

Instructions

    • 1

Thread your heavy needle. To keep your stitches even, draw two guidelines along the edge of your leather with a fabric pen.

    • 2

Start your loop stitch at the edge of your leather, bringing the needle up so it is in the middle of the two guidelines. Bring the needle back down so it goes down through the bottom guideline.

    • 3

Push the needle back up through the top guideline so it is directly in line with your first stitch. Then pass the needle through the first stitch without piercing the fabric.

    • 4

Push the needle down through the bottom guideline, right beside your first stitch. Bring in back up through the top guideline. Pass the needle under the top stitch as you did before, without piercing the fabric.

    • 5

Continue stitching to the left for as long as desired.
