Homemade cleaners are an effective way to clean your home while using nontoxic ingredients. The cleaners are amde from household staples and are good cleaning alternatives for those with allergies or who are concerned about the chemicals in commercial cleaners. Cleaners can be made for both bare floor cleaners and carpet cleaners. You can use these in your personal machines or those you rent. Things You'll Need

  • Borax
  • Dish soap
  • Ammonia
  • Salt
  • Vinegar
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Essential oil

Instructions

  1. Bare Floor Cleaner

    • 1

      Measure 1/3 cup of Borax. Add it to 1 gallon hot water.

      Add 1 tsp. liquid dish soap and 1 Tbsp. ammonia to the solution.

      Pour the solution into your bare floor cleaning machine and use as usual.

    Carpet Cleaner #1

      Fill your carpet cleaning machine with hot water.

      Add 1/4 cup of Borax, vinegar and salt each. Stir gently to mix it with the hot water.

      Use your carpet cleaner as usual.

    Carpet Cleaner #2

      Mix 1 1/2 cups of boiling water, 1/4 cup of hydrogen peroxide, 1 1/2 Tbsp. white vinegar, 1 1/2 Tbsp. dish soap and 1/8 tsp. of essential oil. Use your favorite essential oil.

      Pour the entire solution into your carpet cleaner.

      Use your carpet cleaner as usual.
