How to Remove Moisture From a Camera Lens

Moisture in a camera lens often ruins the lens.

Even a tiny bit of moisture can ruin a camera lens. Avoid getting a camera wet. Pack garbage bags or sandwich bags in your pocket when shooting outside in case of a sudden downpour and place over the entire camera at any sign of rain or snow. Warranties don't often cover water damage, so try to fix the lens at home before getting it fixed by a professional.

Things You'll Need

• Towel
• Bowl
• Silica packets

Instructions

1. Remove the lens from the source of the moisture as quickly as possible. If the lens is still attached to the camera, remove it.

2. Wrap the lens in a clean dry towel.

3. Fill a bag or bowl with silica packets. Make sure the bag or bowl is large enough to fit the lens.

4. Place the lens in the silica packets for 48 hours. Take the lens out to see how it works.

Tips & Warnings

• Take the lens to a repair shop to get an estimate for repairs. Be prepared to pay out of pocket because warranties don't cover damage.

• The lens might appear to be fine for a few weeks and suddenly stop working properly because of corrosion.
