How to Make Lotion White

Homemade lotions can be made white with the addition of minimal ingredients.

Homemade lotion recipes take on the color of the ingredients you use. For example, a standard beeswax lotion recipe has an opaque yellowish tone. If you want your homemade lotions to be white like the commercial lotions, there isn't much involved in the process. Knowing how to turn lotion white gives you the ability to make professional looking lotions, creams and salves.

Things You'll Need

• 1 cup homemade lotion
• 2-quart glass bowl
• Disposable stirring stick
• 1 tbsp. titanium oxide powder

Instructions

1. Pour the 1 cup of homemade lotion into a 2-quart glass bowl. Microwave for 1 minute. This gets it warm without separating it.

2. Sprinkle the titanium oxide powder into the bowl of homemade lotion. Titanium oxide is a natural mineral pigment that is white and chalky. It dissolves in lotions and other similar formulas to turn them pearly white. It can be purchased from craft and hobby supply shops.

3. Stir the bowl of lotion and titanium oxide powder thoroughly for up to five minutes, or until the lotion is creamy and white.
