How to Get a Proto Drake in World of Warcraft
Proto-drakes were introduced into World of Warcraft with 2008's Wrath of the Lich King expansion. There are many types of proto-drakes available, and some are more difficult to acquire than others. Some proto-drakes require you to complete different achievements, some require tracking down rare spawns and some just require luck. To ride a proto-drake, you must be at least level 70 and have a riding skill of 300. The violet, blue and green proto-drakes are three of the easier proto-drakes to acquire.

Violet Proto-Drake

Complete the "What a Long, Strange Trip It's Been" meta achievement.

Check your mailbox for a letter from Alexstrasza the Life-Binder. The letter will also contain the "Reins of the Violet Proto-Drake."

Use the "Reins of the Violet Proto-Drake" to add the mount to your collection.
Blue Proto-Drake

Form a five-man party and enter Utgarde Pinnacle on Heroic Mode.

Defeat Skadi the Ruthless. There is a 1.3 percent chance that Skadi will drop the "Reins of the Blue Proto-Drake."

Click on "Need" if the reins drop.
Green Proto-Drake

Become Revered with the Oracles faction.

Purchase a "Mysterious Egg." The egg with crack in seven days.

Open your "Cracked Egg" to see what's inside. There's a 5 percent chance you'll find the "Reins of the Green Proto-Drake."
