How to Tie Men's Neck Ties
Being able to tie a necktie is crucial for any gentleman that needs to don a suit, whether it's for business or a special occasion. Learning how is a right of passage for most young men, like learning how to shave. There are two basic methods: the standard four-in-the-hand knot, and the elegant Windsor knot. Learning to tie a tie means following a few basic steps and then a little bit of practice. Does this Spark an idea?

Four-In-The-Hand

Place the tie around your neck, underneath the collar of your shirt so that the narrow end of the neck tie is hanging on the right side of your chest.

Overlap the wide end of the neck tie over the narrow end and loop it underneath the narrow end at the top of your shirt, bringing it back to the right. This makes the first loop in the necktie.

Cross the narrow end of the tie with the wide end again just below the first loop at top of the shirt's neckline.

Pull the wide end up behind the first loop and pull upward, but do not tighten. You know have a loose loop over the first loop.

Place a finger in the loop to hold it open keep the front of the knot open and place the wide end of the neck tie down through the the open space. Pull downward to tighten it into a knot.
Half Windsor

Hang the tie around your neck with the wide end hanging about 12 inches below the narrow end.

Cross the wide end of the neck tie over the narrow end and cross back underneath the narrow end, so that the necktie is now looped around you neck and the narrow end of the neck tie has been pulled so that it is hanging in the middle of your shirt.

Bring the wide end up through the loop around your neck and pull through. This has made a small knot around one side of the necktie depending on which side of your body the wide end of the neck tie started .

Swing the wide end over the narrow end of the neck tie and bring it up behind the knot at the top of the neckline and through the loop around your neck. This will make another loop over top of the narrow end, but do not pull it tight yet.

Place your index finger in the loop so that the wide end can pass through that loop and pull through to make a knot. Tighten the knot.
Windsor

Hang the tie around your neck with the wide end hanging about 12 inches below the narrow end.

Pull the wide end of the necktie up the middle behind the first loop and bring it down over the left side of your shirt. The narrow end of the neck tie has now been pulled to the center of the shirt, held by two loops of the wide end of the neck tie.

Pull the wide end underneath the narrow end of the neck tie to the other side and pull up and over the right side of the loop around your neck to make a loop identical to the one on the left side.

Swing the narrow end over and underneath the knots at the neckline of the tie. Pull upward so that there is a loose loop around the necktie. Hold the loop open with your index finger and pull the wind end through the loop, making a knot. Pull to tighten.

Tips & Warnings
When a necktie is at its proper length, the tip of the tie should lie directly in line with the bottom of your belt buckle.
