How to Use Mica Tape

Mica tape is similar to electrical tape in that it is used in the common household. Mica tape is a special electronic cable insulator made of mica paper. Mica paper is made using mica, a type of mineral found on some rocks. If you've split some electrical cables and want to insulate them, use mica tape instead of electrical tape.

Things You'll Need

• Mica tape roll
• Cable
• Scissors

Instructions

1. Unwrap about ½ inch of mica tape from the roll and place it onto the electrical cable you want to insulate.

2. Wrap the mica tape around the cable until you have a layer no more than about ¼ inch thick.

3. Cut the mica tape with a pair of scissors, then wrap the remaining tape around the cable.
