How to Engrave Rubber
Rubber can be engraved to create rubber stamps for decorative, business or personal use. Because rubber is a thick, stiff material, getting a defined cut can be difficult with standard tools. Instead, you can use a computerized laser engraving machine that employs a moving laser head to vaporize a programmed design into the rubber. This leaves a clean, very sharp engraving for consistent and legible stamping. You can purchase a laser engraving machine for at-home use and rubber engraving sheets through most office supply stores.

1
Install the engraving software that came with your laser engraving machine onto your computer and then launch the design program. The software will allow you to create the exact design you want to appear on the rubber and will control the machine.
-
2
Create the design for the stamps in the program. Print out a copy of the design on paper using a standard printer to ensure the sizes and layout are to your liking. All engraving machines have different maximum engraving sizes, so compare this size to your printed image.

3
Lift the cover of the engraving machine and set the rubber sheet onto the bed. Make sure the sheet is lined up with the measured markings on the engraving machine to ensure proper engraving.
-
4
Start the machine from the engraving software using the design you created. Enter the number of times you want the pattern to repeat on the rubber sheet and continue through the other print options available in the software. When the computer program is set up the way you want it on the computer, click on the "Print" button.

5
Wait for the machine to finish running and lift the cover to remove the sheet from the machine. Cut the stamps apart with scissors and remove any excess rubber surrounding your stamps.
