Add some extra plump to your pout with a homemade glycerin-based lip plumper.

For those of us who can't afford expensive silicone lip injections, there is an alternate way to get a touch of that sought-after look without the high price. Today's commercial lip plumpers make your lips swell temporarily, using a mixture of glycerin or jojoba oil with a natural "plumper" such as cinnamon, cayenne or menthol, which irritates and draws extra blood flow to your lips. To make your own lip plumper at home, grab some glycerin and essential oils from your local health or natural food store. You'll be on your way to a plumper pucker in no time. Instructions

    • 1

Mix approximately 1 tbsp. of vegetable glycerin with two drops of cayenne oil, four drops of cinnamon oil, four drops of peppermint oil and 1 tsp. of honey or vitamin E oil.

    • 2

Stir the mixture thoroughly, and apply a dab to your lips. Wipe off any excess that gets on the skin surrounding your lips. You should feel a light stinging sensation and notice that your lips become slightly swollen and red as blood is drawn to them.

    • 3

Dilute the mixture with more glycerin, honey or vitamin E oil if you find it too irritating.

    • 4

Store the mixture in an airtight container in your refrigerator and use as desired.

Tips & Warnings

  • To remove chapping and to plump lips a little more, brush your lips gently every time you brush your teeth.

  • Don't overdo the lip plumper. Using more or using it too often can cause excessive irritation, redness and discomfort.
