Miniature Frog Pond
-
1
Line the bottom of the shallow glass bowl with blue decorative stones --- the bowl should be shallow with a wide opening to mimic a pond. You can find these types of bowls at many discount stores and craft stores.
-
2
Place a clean rock in the center of the bowl. Use a rock that is flat on the top and bottom and about the same height as top of the glass bowl.
-
-
3
Fill the bowl about two-third full with clean water then add four or five drops of blue food coloring. Stir with a long spoon to distribute the food coloring and dye the water blue. Make sure the top of the rock sticks out of the water.
-
4
Cut three or four lily pad shapes with 1-1/2 to 2-inch diameters out of green foam paper. It may be easier to cut circles first and then cut a small wedge out of each one.
-
5
Place the lily pads in the water to float on the surface, using more or less lily pads depending on the size of the bowl. Use your own judgment, but overcrowd your "pond" with lily pads.
-
6
Float white silk flowers among the lily pads. Select small flowers that resemble lotus blossoms and are to scale with the lily pads and other items.
-
7
Set a plastic toy frog on the rock that protrudes from the water so it looks like it is sitting on a rock in the middle of a pond. You can find both realistic and cartoon-like toy frogs at many toy stores. Use the type that fits the tone of your party.
Frog Flower Vase
-
8
Decorate a flower vase with frog stickers or green glitter.
-
9
Arrange lotus blossoms in a tall vase. Use real or silk lotus blossoms. If you can't find lotus blossoms, use another white flower.
-
10
Glue a small frog toy to the side of a long craft stick. The stick should be about as long as the flowers.
-
11
Place one or two frog toy sticks among the flowers in the vase. Make sure the sticks go down far into the vase to counter the weight of the frogs and prevent them from falling out.
-
12
Fill the vase with water if you use real flowers.
Frogs on Grass
-
13
Fill a rectangular dish with potting soil one inch from the top of the container. Your container should be three to four inches deep.
-
14
Spread wheatgrass seeds over the potting soil and then cover with approximately one more inch of soil. A handful of seeds should be enough for a medium-sized container.
-
15
Water the wheatgrass seeds and let them grow in a sunny room for seven to ten days. Watering occasionally to keep the soil moist. When the grass is dense within the container and about two inches high, it is ready for use in your centerpiece
-
16
Trim the wheatgrass to just above the top of the container using a pair of regular household scissors. Try to make the tops as even as possible so that you have a flat surface like a lawn.
-
17
Arrange toy frogs in a row down the middle of the wheatgrass container. Some frogs can be pointed different ways so they're not in a perfectly straight line, but try to keep them centered.
-
18
Add small decorative stones as a border along the inside edge of the container or on the table around the base of the container.

Tips & Warnings
Make one centerpiece for each table at your party. Be sure to include on for the food table.
If you can find small frog bath toys, you can float them in the water.
The wheatgrass centerpiece requires advance preparation, but if you're short on time, you can dig up pieces of sod to use as your centerpiece and replace them on your lawn when finished, or use moss or other natural materials.
Don't waste the wheatgrass! Blend the clippings with a juice drink to add healthy chlorophyll, beta-carotene and vitamins B-12, B-6, K and C to your diet.
Make sure all your rocks are in the container before you add the water or else the container might overflow.
