How to Repair a Yorx New Wave Turntable

Repair your Yorx New Wave turntable.

Most turntables run on moving parts that need to be replaced or maintained regularly. The Yorx New Wave turntable is a belt drive turntable, which means it runs on a small motor that requires a belt to operate. If you use your turntable often, the belt will stretch out, which can result in warped-sounding records during playback. Turntable belts should be replaced about every two years. Replacing the belt in your Yorx turntable requires that you partially dismantle the turntable.

Instructions

    • 1

Power down the turntable, and unplug the power cable from the nearest electrical outlet. Let the turntable cool down for about 30 minutes.

    • 2

Lift the turntable's plastic cover in the upright position so you have free access to all the turntable's components. Remove any records from the turntable. Lift the rubber mat off the turntable platform, or platter.

    • 3

Grasp each side of the platter and lift straight up until it comes loose from the alignment rod and the belt drive motor. The platter is the disc-like platform where the record and dust mat sit. Remove the platter from the turntable assembly.

    • 4

Remove the belt from inside the turntable. If the belt is broken, simply remove the broken pieces from inside the turntable. If it is still attached, grasp the belt and stretch it until it comes loose from the belt drive motor.

    • 5

Use a can of compressed air to blow out any excess dust and debris from inside the turntable. Apply some rubbing alcohol to a clean cloth and thoroughly wipe down the drive motor and the surrounding areas. Allow a few minutes for the alcohol to dry.

    • 6

Place the replacement belt inside the turntable, and wrap it around the lip on the belt drive motor. Stretch the belt and wrap it around the pulley rods next to the belt drive motor.

    • 7

Slide the platter back onto the alignment rod. Press down on the platter until it reconnects to the belt drive. Place the rubber dust mat on the turntable's platter.
