How to Dress a Guy As a Girl

A few accessories and a great outfit can transform any man into a woman.

Today's society breeds a higher tolerance for cross-dressing than ever before -- whether it is for day-to-day wear or a one-time costume. Even though classic fashions for women tend to be a little different than those for men, a male to female transformation is simple to achieve. With a few fun props and a little bit of blush, guys can mimic their female counterparts pretty easily. Just don't forget to shave. Otherwise, your cover might be blown.

Preparation

1. 

   Facial hair is a dead giveaway to testosterone.

   Shave all facial hair. Most women do not have thick beards or mustaches. Unless you are trying to provide comic relief with this costume, ditch the whiskers.

2. Shave all the hair off of your legs. Body hair is a sign of manhood, and most women shave their legs before they wear dresses.

3. Clean your fingernails. Grimy fingernails don't tend to go well with pretty dresses. Make sure they are clean, or better yet -- paint them with nail polish.

4. Find a dress and shoes that fit. Keep in mind that women have curvy shapes, and most men do not, so finding an aptly-fitted dress might take a moment. Try to go for flowing styles that do not fit too tightly.

5. Find a bra. Be brave and borrow one from a female loved one, or go to the store and buy a brand new brassiere.

Dressing Up

1. Put on a bra with the desired cup size. For a voluptuous look, choose a large cup size and then stuff the cups with toilet paper.

2. Put on the dress. If the fit is not perfect, try pinning it with safety pins or cinching it with a belt.

3. Put on the nylons or pantyhose. Shaving your legs will make this process a lot easier.

4. Wear the highest heels available. Women's heels can be a challenge for men to wear because they require balance and sometimes come in only small sizes. For men with larger feet, try costume shops or just wear sandals and glue sequins on them.

Completing the Look

1. Add jewelry that accentuates the dress. For a bold look, add costume jewelry that is chunky and colorful. Clip-on earrings can be found at many vintage and thrift stores, so do not fret if your ears are not pierced.

2. Find a purse that matches your outfit. When all else fails, try to match your shoes to your bag.

3. Add a wig that features a woman's hair style. Or, if you have long hair, try styling it in a feminine way. This might require buying hair products or heating tools, so choose the wig route if that is a concern.

4. Apply lipstick, eyeshadow and blush to complete the look.
