Homemade Doggie & Cat Treats
Some people feed their pets human food as a treat. However, our food is typically unhealthy for cats and dogs. Instead, make homemade dog and cat treats. The benefit of making these treats is that you can provide your pet healthful vegetables and fruits. In addition, a homemade recipe can cost you less than a store-bought treat. Things You'll Need
- Cat Crackers
- 6 oz. canned tuna
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1/3 cup water
- Thanksgiving Turkey Loaf
- 1 pound leftover turkey
- 1/4 cup grated carrot
- 1 cup cooked brown rice
- 3 tbsp. chopped parsley
- 1/2 cup low-sodium chicken stock

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Combine 6 oz. undrained canned tuna, 1 cup flour, 1 cup cornmeal and 1/3 cup water in a large bowl. Mix with your hands until the flour and cornmeal are smooth.

Roll the mixture into a 1/4-inch thick block. Cut into small pieces that your cat can eat.

Put treats on a greased cookie sheet. Bake for 20 minutes. The treats are ready when they are golden.

Let cool before you give them to your cat.
Thanksgiving Turkey Loaf

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Gather 1 pound leftover turkey, 1/4 cup grated carrot, 1 cup cooked brown rice, 3 tbsp. of chopped parsley and 1/2 cup low-sodium chicken stock.

Chop the turkey into small pieces. Mix with the rest of the ingredients in a large bowl.

Press the mixture lightly into a loaf tin with the back of a spoon.

Bake for about 45 minutes.

Let the loaf cool before feeding it to your dog. Cut the loaf into bite-size bits and store in the refrigerator.

Baking times may vary.
Never feed your pet a treat fresh from the oven. The treat might be too hot for your pet.
