How to Use a Mamiya 645 Lens on a Nikon Camera

The Mamiya 645 is a medium format camera that uses lenses that are not compatible with Nikon camera bodies. Each camera manufacturer uses a different lens attachment configuration, and these different attachment configurations restrict the type of lens that can be used with a camera body. The major camera manufactures have developed lens adapters that allow competitor's lens to be used on their camera bodies. By using a lens adapter, you can continue to use your favorite lenses on a different manufacturer's camera body.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the lens attached to the Nikon camera body. Depress the release button located along the left-hand side of the lens well and rotate the lens off.

    • 2

Replace the lens with a Mamiya to Nikon M645 lens adapter. The adapter will fit onto the camera body in the same manner that a lens attaches. Rotate the adapter until it locks into place.

    • 3

Attach a Mamiya 645 lens to the lens adapter in the same manner that you would attach a lens to the camera body. Rotate the lens until it locks into place on the adapter. The lens is now ready for use.

    • 4

Use the Mamiya 645 lenses in the same manner that you would use any Nikon lenses on the camera. There will be slight differences in how the Mamiya lenses will respond, but some experimentation will quickly get you to the point that you are producing quality photographs.

Tips & Warnings

  • Depending on the Mamiya lens being used, automatic features of the camera may not work, and manual focusing, shutter speed and aperture may be required.

  • The distance scale on the Mamiya lens may be different from the actual focus distance when using the adapter.
